The Future

I will put the old forums back up for nostalgia's sake when I get my server running again, but this project is long dead and the many attempts to resurrect it have been futile.  We had a good run, and it was wonderful working with all of you.  Keep in touch if you want, you know how to contact me.

Sever Puked Itself

The server finally decided that it didn't want to work any more. Not that I really blame it. Being the busy college student I am, and due to the fact that my server is almost an hour away from me (and I don't have a car), I don't have the time to fix it right now. So, I suppose now is as good of a time as any to discuss reinventing the format of the site. DA as we know it pretty much died, mainly due to lack of time. Is there any direction we can go from here that has a chance success? Is there anything worth doing? What do we want to try to be, if anything? A community? A game development site? A hub for independent game developers to share their creations? A game engine site? Or should we finally let it all rest in peace? I am up for anything that has a shot of surviving.

Your input is welcome. You can either reply here or email me (Jonny[pleasenospam]9797(at)gmail_dot_com).

In my free time I have been tinkering with OpenGL and C++ (just because I enjoy it, not because I want to accomplish anything major). I have some code working that loads and displays the maps from the old VB6 DA engine, but I am not sure how to proceed. I considered porting the pop-up book engine from DA3Dalus. However, no one plays 2d online multiplayer RPGs anymore. It would need some sort of gimmick. I was thinking either A) open up the source and make it a community project or B) make creating the game part of the gameplay. (Whereas some games let you level up to use different spells or something, in this game you would level up to gain powers of creation over different elements of the game world. People would get to do something cool, and the game would be expanded at the same time.) Whatever happens, however, I was never in it for success or money or players or anything. I was in it because I enjoy it. Thank you all for the time, the experiences, and the friendships.
